I started thinking of concepts for this contest around Easter, so as a Christian/Mormon it seemed natural to depict Christ as the ultimate symbol of good, and satan as the ultimate symbol of evil.
This is also somewhat based on a scripture from the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 9:10): "O how great the goodness of our God, who prepareth a way for our escape from the grasp of this awful monster; yea, that monster, death and hell, which I call the death of the body, and also the death of the spirit."
This piece illustrates Jesus Christ's victory over Satan. Satan's arms represent spiritual death and physical death. The rings around the nail marks in Christ's hands and wrists symbolize His atonement and crucifixion. These rings also loosely form the mathematical symbol for infinity, which in this case is meant to symbolize the eternal, infinite nature of Christ's victory.
